At the International Yoga Day Trust, we often discuss the importance of Vinyasa—the sequence and flow of our practice. However, our yoga doesn't end when we roll up our mats. As practitioners seeking harmony with the universe, we must also consider the flow and "life cycle" of the physical objects we bring into our lives. This is where the concept of Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) transcends the boardroom and becomes a vital tool for the conscious yogi.
In a world of "fast fashion" and disposable goods, applying the principles of a product’s life cycle to our personal choices is an act of mindfulness. Here is how we can align our consumption with our spiritual values:
Mindful Sourcing and Intentional Design The first stage of Product Life Cycle Management is design and sourcing. For a yogi, this means asking: Where did this mat come from? Is it made of biodegradable natural rubber or harmful PVC? By choosing products designed with their entire life cycle in mind, we practice Ahimsa toward the Earth. We support creators who prioritize sustainable materials, ensuring that the "birth" of our yoga gear does not cause harm to the environment.
